Ultimate Fighter Teaches Robber A Lesson

Anthony Miranda learned two important lessons for the price of one. 1st he learned that bad things can happen to robbers who target Ultimate Fighting Champs, and 2nd he learned he needs to make a career change. Here's what happened:

"Anthony Miranda approached a parked vehicle near 55th Street and Kenneth Avenue Friday night and asked the driver for a lighter before pointing a handgun at the man and demanding money. After the driver handed over some cash, Miranda reportedly ordered him out of the car -- which was apparently a mistake.

Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli told the Sun-Times what happened next:

At some point, Miranda’s attention was diverted and the victim was able to grab control of the gun and the two wrestled.
During the fight, Miranda accidentally discharged his gun, shooting himself in the ankle, Mirabelli said.
The victim was then able to pin down Miranda until police arrived, Fox Chicago reports. He told officers he was a martial arts expert and ultimate fighting champion. Miranda was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with a "face full of lacerations," two black eyes and a gunshot wound."

R.I.P Joe Frazier

Boxing legend Smokin' Joe Frazier passed away at age 67. The former undisputed heavyweight champ was battling live cancer. The cancer had been diagnosed in September but his condition never improved. He died shortly after being placed in hospice earlier this month.

"Frazier, who took on Ali in three momentous fights in the 1970s – including the epic "Thrilla in Manilla" – had been under home hospice care after being diagnosed just weeks ago with the cancer that took his life, a family friend said. Until then, Frazier had been doing regular autograph appearances, including one in Las Vegas in September.
Smokin' Joe was a small yet ferocious fighter who smothered his opponents with punches, including a devastating left hook he used to end many of his fights early. It was the left hook that dropped Ali in the 15th round at Madison Square Garden in 1971 to seal a win in the so-called "Fight of the Century."

Though he beat Ali in that fight, Frazier lost the final two and for many years was bitter about the role Ali forced him to play as his foil.

Frazier was diagnosed last month with the disease, his personal and business manager said. Leslie Wolff, who has been Frazier's manager for seven years, said the boxer had been in out and out of the hospital since early October and receiving hospice treatment the last week.

Frazier was the first man to beat Ali, knocking him down and taking a decision in the so-called Fight of the Century in 1971. He would go on to lose two more fights to Ali, including the epic "Thrilla in Manila" bout.

Frazier was bitter for many years about the way Ali treated him then. More recently, he said he had forgiven Ali for repeatedly taunting him."

Not a day goes by that someone doesn't hit me up asking me to post more 52 Blocks videos. Here's the thing people, I can only post what's put out there. There's not a lot of new 52 Blocks videos out there like you'd find from other combat systems. You ask and I'll provide, but be patient.

Here's the latest 52 Blocks video from Lyte Burly's camp. The video is of Lyte Burly's student Young Burly and Rahmel's (IMMr52) student Cheeze gettin' it in. As described by Lyte Burly at the end of the video, the two camps had been going back and forth about which does the 'real' 52 Blocks, so to put an end to all the talk, Cheeze visits the Burlys and here is the result:

"The Last Dragon" star Leo O'Brien Shot 3 Times

Leo O'Brien the actor who played the little brother of Bruce LeRoy in the cult classic 'The Last Dragon' was hospitalized after being shot 3 times in Harlem by a friend. The shooting took place over a chair:

"The shooting happened on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. and W. 127th St. Police arrested Travis Breckenridge, 50, and charged him with attempted murder and gun possession.

A police source said the two men were arguing about a chair. Breckenridge was in the chair and got up, then O'Brien sat down. The accused gunman wanted the chair back, but was already out of patience.

"It's about f------ time," he said to O'Brien, according to the police source. "Then he pulls out a gun and shoots him."

O'Brien felt a stinging sensation in his abdomen and asked his pal: "You got a BB gun?"

"The second bullet hit me in the stomach," he said. "I knew then it was a real gun....The third bullet hit me in the arm.

"He didn't say anything to me. He started crying and ran away. He was my homeboy. Did we have a problem before he shot me? No. I don't know why he shot me. He was scared. Maybe he thought I would hurt him?"

As bizarre as this story is, it's errily similar to one with a less fortunate ending where a man killed his friend over a home.

Boxing Trainer Murdered Australian Heavyweight Champ

This has to be one of the most ridiculous cases I've ever come across involving the murder of a friend (but then again when is it ever cool to kill a friend?)

"The court heard that Curran and Mr Cervi were once friends but fell out over living arrangements.

Curran had been living in Mr Cervi's house and Mr Cervi was living in Curran's apartment.

Their relationship became tense after they agreed to return to their own premises.

On the day of the shooting, Mr Cervi, 41, had verbally abused Curran for damaging his trailer and leaving his place in a mess.

Curran was also unhappy at the way Mr Cervi and his friends had left his premises.

Less than an hour before he shot Mr Cervi, Curran had sent a text message to a friend saying he "might have a full-on blue with Vinnie" and asked for back-up but his friend refused.

Justice Stephen Kaye said he was satisfied Curran took the loaded gun with him because he felt vulnerable going alone."

Merging 52 Blocks with....

Okay you guys keep asking me to keep you posted on everything 52, so you ask and you shall receive. Some (including me) would question why would anyone need 52 Blocks if they knew tai chi chuan, baguazhang, or Wing Chun? Each of those systems are self contained units and complete in that time spent in them would more than likely fulfill all of your martial arts needs in combat, but Lyte Burly believes in using 52 Blocks as your base with these arts and I think allow 52 Blocks to fill in the gaps where these systems are limited? Not sure but when you see his description of Wing Chun's range limitation then you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

MMA Trainer Shawn Tompkins Dead, 37

Shawn Tompkins, the Canadian trainer who helped steer several fighters to mixed martial arts prominence, has died. He was 37 years old.

Known for a steady, guiding hand in developing his athletes, he was nicknamed "The Coach."

His death was confirmed by Mike Straka, a friend of Tompkins' who worked with him at TapouT.

Straka told MMA Fighting that Tompkins was in Canada at the time of his death with his brother-in-law Sam Stout and longtime fighter Mark Hominick. The cause is unknown pending an autopsy.

First Woman to Earn 10th Dan In Judo

Keiko Fukuda is 98 years old, 4 feet 10 and a mere 100 pounds, but this petite woman has been recognized as a giant in the martial arts world of judo.

Fukuda was just awarded a 10th-degree black belt, judo's highest level and an honor that has been granted to only a handful of men worldwide and never before to a woman.

Fukuda, who is addressed by the honorific sensei, which means master, is as soft spoken as she is humble. "I appreciate it very much," was all she would say to ABCNews.com.

Before Fukuda attained her new rank, she was a ninth degree black belt, an already stratospheric ranking in the world of judo.

Although she sometimes uses a wheelchair, Fukuda continues to teach classes three times a week to women and girls as young as 14 at the Soko Joshi Judo Club in the Noe Valley area of San Francisco.

She was recently videotaped getting out of her wheelchair to demonstrate a move meant to flip an opponent on his back. Instead of tossing the opponent, she settled for a comment that drew laughs from her students.

Rashad Evans pounded out Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 and the fight was stopped at 4:48 of the second round.

"The win guarantees Evans a shot at the belt currently held by his former friend Jon “Bones” Jones. The two were once training partners, but had a bitter split earlier this year. Jones will defend his crown in the main event of UFC 135 on Sept. 24 in Denver against another rival of Evans, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Evans hammered Ortiz in the first with a series of punches and elbows, using better boxing skills to take the round. Summer Madness: Nakmeezy's Response To Maoshan's Video

The saga continues....
The other day Maoshan let off a few shots (click here if you missed it) at Nakmeezy and Lyte Burley and today Nakmeezy tries to go in on Maoshan.

My thought....enough with the back and forth videos. These brothers should fight again so all this back and forth can stop. I'd like to see these fellas, fight this out and whoever loses accepts their defeat; no excuses, and who ever wins wins, but the bashing stops. I'd like to see the same with a Nakmeezy vs Dj bout. Whoever wins enjoys victory and whoeever loses accepts defeat but either way the bashing ceases.

Nakmeezy's videos are usually creative and yes dare I say, funny, but this one is a bit of a stretch as Nakmeezy attempts to show Maoshan's homo tendacies. Anyhow, enjoy the video:

Summer Madness Part 2: Nakmeezy Strikes Back...Again

All I can say is Nakmeezy is a funny cat with this latest installment of dissin' DJ and Maoshan. Word is Nakmeezy is willing to fight DJ but not at MUSU he wants to fight him some place neutral.

On the other side of things people are saying Nakmeezy is just talking and has no intention of fighting anyone, especially when DJ has in Nakmeezy's stompin' grounds and Nakmeezy didn't call DJ back to the park when he got there. Heads are basically calling him an attention whore; wanting all the youtube attention but no real hand to hand combat.

18 Chambers says the video trash talking is funny and creative, but time to end it all and let the skills speak for themself. These two (or three) need to meet up fight and be done with it. Peep the video:

All I can say is wow! I just got a video clip of Nakmeezy taking a shot at DJ the student of Maoshan. In the clip Nakmeezy points out a few things that occurred during DJ's bout at the last Man Up Stand Up competition.

Warrior: New Martial Art Movie

Finally a new martial arts movie that looks like it may actually be worth a damn. It's called Warrior and appears to have some well known stars in it: Tom Hardy (Inception), Joel Edgerton (Star Wars: Episode II), Jennifer Morrison (House), and Nick Nolte (48 Hours).

Here's the storyline according to IMDB, "The youngest son (Hardy) of an alcoholic former boxer (Nolte) returns home, where he's trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament -- a path that puts the fighter on a collision corner with his older brother (Edgerton)."

Brett Rogers Arrested for Alleged Assault

Strike Force's heavyweight GP entrant Brett Rogers was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife and has been dropped from Strike Force.

Roger's has stated that his wife punched him and he retaliated, but according to Fox 9 News in Minnesota, Rogers and his wife had some kind of argument then he proceeded to punch her in the head repeatedly and choked her unconcious.

52 Blocks: MERGING 52BLOCKS WITH PA-KUA?

Whether you like the whole 52 Blocks thing or not, Lyte Burly ain't trying to make it go away. In the following video, he's showing how he merges the striking and slipping from 52 blocks with grappling of baguazhang, which is puzzling to me but I'm no bagua man; I just watch bagua videos and gathered it's a striking art unto itself.

I think Mr. Burly may have to go back to the drawing board (and training hall) especially after looking at his "take down" of his student at 2:02 into the video. But I've said too much, you be the judge.
